Quote Response 6

I've chosen a few scattered frames, rather than just a few that are together.

Satrapi starts to get interested in politics and begins to abandon her earlier dreams of being a prophet. She starts to move God lower and lower on her list of priorities and interests. "GOD: So you don't want to be a prophet anymore? SATRAPI: Let's talk about something else. ... GOD: It will be 75 [degrees Faranheit] in the shade. SATRAPI: Shhh! Wait a second!" (Satrapi 13-14). "SATRAPI: Don't you think I look like Che Guevara? Maybe I'll be even better as Fidel Castro! [God leaves the room while Satrapi looks at herself in the mirror.] Where are you? [Satrapi searches her room for God.] Are you there?" (Satrapi 16). [Satrapi lies in bed, crying] "God, where are you?" [The narrative line reads "That night he didn't come."] (Satrapi 17).

This bit interested me because I think it shows great insight on Satrapi's part to realize that she had begun to put other matters in front of God in her life. She does a good job of showing that as a young girl who was overly excited, she wasn't aware that she was somewhat turning her back on God. Of course, she soon becomes aware of his absence and regrets her behavior.
